The Tide

The Tide

We live within the tidal zone
Transient beauty at the edge of a vast ocean
We breathe when the moon pulls back the waters
We nourish when the ocean flows with bounty

The tides always change
The ocean resolves to consume and abandon
She is neither bad nor good
She is of dissonant intentions

I am called upon when the waters won’t recede
To maintain our autonomy
I am called upon when the waters won’t flow
To maintain our sustainability

Patience is the pain of humility
Perseverance consumes love with resentments
I am neither the shore nor the ocean
And I am alone in knowing of the tide

The ocean is individualism and identity-less irrelevance
The ocean speaks for objectivity and the sacred metaphysical
The ocean washes us with sustainability and impermanence
The ocean is our validation and our oppression

The shore is our fear of death
The shore is a moment needing and un-wanting of change
The shore is a passion which nurtures a mission
The shore is a way that we have chosen

Whose shoulders are fresh to carry?
Whose perseverance is next to accept this dedication?
I love you too much to resent you
I love too much to resent myself

Acceptance brings gratitude for the reflection of my change
With grace I move with accomplishment
I return in love to the tidal zone
And resolve to stop fighting the tide

I find balance in the resolve of an unrestricted breath
I see a community thriving from dreams incarnate
I sit content with people who see the ocean differently
And I smile for what the tide has taught me about life
