I, William Hambleton Bishop, live with my lovely wife (been together 20 years!) and two wonderful sons in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. I offer individual, couples and family therapy out of my private practice – additionally I offer online therapy to Colorado residents and online consulting to anyone seeking my assistance. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and an AAMFT Approved supervisor. For five years I was the Executive Director of the Denver Family Institute, which is a non-profit in Denver which has the mission of nurturing wellness into our shared community through services and training in promoting healthy relationships. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado with an emphasis in Couples and Family Therapy along with a two year, AAMFT approved, post graduate certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Denver Family Institute.
My professional passion is to help people and their loved ones to find wellness through a meaningful, intelligent and empathetic therapeutic encounter; my personal passions are to connect with friends and family, to enjoy the freedom and joy found recreating in the mountains, to play music to poetically inspire and to collaborate with other artists, and to continually search out new and exciting forms of health, humor, and happiness.
‘thoughts from a therapist’ will include lessons learned from both my path as a therapist and from my journeys of: learning a degree of selflessness through the love I share with wonderful wife, of learning humility while overcoming difficult teenage years, of the importance of unconditional love as my friends and family held me through my times of understanding my childhood adoption, of finding the gift of the present moment through the mind quieting beauty of the Rocky Mountains, of learning to find wellness by nurturing the body with proper exercise -meditation – and yoga, and of the infinite freedom that can be found when I surrender himself to music and creativity. My life and the lives of those close to me have had their share of bliss and suffering… For now I have found balance and peace and my goal is to share with you some thoughts on how to increase wellness while cultivating both personal and relational strength to better manage the inevitable ups and downs of this delicate and precious thing we call life.

Will’s wife is a practicing nutritionist in the Front Range of Colorado she has a very excellent nutrition blog at www.justalittlechocolate.com – as the name suggests she is a proponent of a balanced view on nutrition, and as such her ideas and recipes are very doable and accessible.

Came across this wonderful blog as I was searching for some additional thoughts on “dichotomous thinking” for a blog post that I am working on. I was so surprised to see a fellow University of Northern Colorado (former) student, discussing all things therapy and mental health! I got my M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Boston College and am now a doctoral student at UNC. Small world! I’d love to link to your blog in the future and continue to read your excellent articles!
So cool… thanks for reading… I loved UNC – say hello to all the faculty for me. Best to you and thank you again for the support
Hi, I am a social work instructor who has recently been asked to teach a Relational Practice course to nursing students at my college. I was looking for resources for building empathy and came across your blog about empathy building exercises. I think that they are very good and would like your permission to post the blog URL on my courses electronic support site (Moodle) for the students to access.
Thanks for considering this request.
Greetings … go ahead – thank you for spreading my site 🙂
I really wonder how come you branded this posting, “Thoughts from a therapist | thoughts from a
